Why Sell eBooks?

Electronic Books, most commonly referred to as "eBooks," are probably one of the best-selling items on eBay. They can be downloaded and viewed on your PC or Mac. One of the biggest advantages of selling ebooks on eBay is the fact that they cost nothing to deliver -- you don't have to rush to the post box or post office every day! In fact, you can even set it up so that your ebooks are delivered on autopilot!

With eBay, your audience is international, and you can sell endless items on almost any subject.
Hundreds upon thousands of eBooks are sold every hour on eBay, and I am going to show you how to make a legitimate income from selling eBooks.

If you search for the terms "ebook" or "e-book" on eBay, no doubt you'll get well over 5,000 results -- many of which don't even have the word "ebook" in the title. Basically, ebooks can be found everywhere! In fact, you probably have a few right now on your computer.

What You Need to Get Started

An eBay Account

If you don't already have an eBay account, click here to get started!

Webspace & Domain Name

Hosting your ebooks (in .zip format) on your own webspace will make your life so much easier. This allows you to send emails to the winning buyer providing the download link so tha they can download your ebook directly from your webspace.

Of course, you could send your ebooks as email attachments, but there are many disadvantages to this strategy, such as:

  1. Your customer may not know how to open an attachment.
  2. Some people are concerned about attachments containing viruses.
  3. Some email clients prevent attachments from being opened.
  4. Because of the size of emails you will be sending, your outbox will constantly be full.
  5. Your customer's inbox may be full, and they won't receive your ebook.
  6. You may get blamed for a virus someone receives.

Your internet service provider (ISP) should have provided you with free webspace. If you're not sure, ask them and get your web address (URL) from them.

The next step is to purchase a domain name. You can get one for only $8.95 per year from GoDaddy.com. They also provide very competitive rates for webspace if you don't have any.

You may be wondering -- what's the point? The reason is quite simple. Imagine sending out a download link. Which looks the most professional?

www.ebook-software-etc.com/ebook.zip

or

www.someincrediblylongdomainname.com/morecrazynonsense/ebook.zip

The first link is one to my website -- I'm sure you'll agree that it looks far more professional. The second link is imaginary, of course, but I think you get the point. Always remember that this is your business, not a hobby. You need to project the most professional image possible in order to bring repeat customers back.

If your ISP does offer free webspace, GoDaddy.com will allow you to redirect your chosen domain to any address you want. So you can be up and running for only less than $10!

A POP3 Email Account

If you want to set up auto-delivery of your ebooks, you'll need a POP3 email account to use with Outlook Express. Again, most likely your ISP has provided one to you free of charge.

If you sign up for web hosting with GoDaddy.com, you'll get unlimited POP3 email addresses.
There are also many free POP3 email accounts available on the internet -- just do a search on Google.

WinZip

In order to reduce space on your server and decrease download times for your customers, you'll need to use WinZip software to compress or "zip up" your ebooks. Most likely, you already have WinZip installed on your computer. If not, just go to www.winzip.com to download it free. Don't worry about the trial period -- it will still work after the expiration date.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

The majority of ebooks are in PDF format. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. Again, odds are that this software is already installed on your computer. But if it isn't, you can download it free from Adobe.
